Why I Wrote Letters to Cassie

Light pink vinca blossoms spilling over a raised garden bed, their petals soft and serene against dark green foliage—symbolizing gentle growth and healing.

I never meant to write Letters to Cassie.

Cassie and Chris were just supposed to be supporting characters—background figures in The Sergeant’s Marriage Arrangement. They had roles to play: provide support, help move the plot along, maybe earn a chuckle or two from readers.

But something changed.

As I started writing The Sergeant’s Marriage Arrangement, I found myself giving Cassie and Chris more and more page time. Not because they were demanding it—but because

something about them felt unfinished.

The way Chris carried himself, the way Cassie held back, the way their love story seemed to have roots that went deep…

They had a story.

A real one.

And I couldn’t ignore it.

💌 The Power of Unspoken Love

There’s something incredibly tender about love that simmers beneath the surface—love that’s never quite been given the chance to breathe.
Chris and Cassie are two people who never got to say what needed to be said. Letters to Cassie became their voice. Their closure to the past. Their beginning.

Writing their story gave The Sergeant’s Marriage Arrangement a multi-dimensional heartbeat—one that beats with grace, ache, and quiet redemption.

🕊️ For the Brokenhearted

This story is for anyone who’s ever wondered, “What if?”
For anyone who’s loved quietly.
For anyone who’s walked away from something unfinished and later found the courage to return and try again.

Because sometimes love doesn’t come loudly.
Sometimes it arrives in quiet words and digital letters.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
— Proverbs 13:12

🔥 A Story I Didn’t Plan, But Needed

I don’t think Letters to Cassie is just a romantic short story. I believe it’s a reminder that healing can come through words—even ones that are typed late at night and never meant to be read.
I didn’t plan to write it, but I’m grateful I did.
And I hope it speaks to someone the way it spoke to me.
